Summer Engagement Photos: What You Need To Know

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Summer engagement photos are just around the corner here in Iowa. The weather is getting warmer, and the sun is out in full force during much of the week. Summer engagement photos can be super fun for our photographers to capture, but there are some things to keep in mind when scheduling your engagement photos during the summer.

#1 Sweat

No one likes to sweat while taking their engagement photos. In Iowa, the likelihood of getting a little sweaty while taking photos outside in the summer is pretty high. We would recommend scheduling your photos for the early morning or evening do help avoid the hot summer afternoons.

We also encourage you to pack extra make-up if wanted as well as some towels to pat down your skin if necessary. This will help keep the sweat from showing up on your photos.

#2 Lighter Clothes

Summertime engagement photos are a great opportunity to wear the cutest sun dresses or tank tops! We love the look of these outfits for your engagement photos! For the guys, pull out those khaki shorts and polo shirt to bring out all of the summery vibes!

The lighter your clothes are the less likely you are to get too hot while moving around taking your engagement photos!

#3 Sunscreen / Umbrella

We recommend to our couples to bring sunscreen and put it on before the day starts. This is because if we are taking outside shots for a few hours in the sun you could burn fast, and we don’t want all the redness from the sunburn to show up on your engagement photos.

Another item we recommend is bringing an umbrella in between locations to keep you out of the hot sun and help protect your skin.

#4 Water

Summer is a great opportunity to get those fun water engagement photos. Whether you are dipping your feet into the water or splashing it up in the air these shots will create some fun and beautiful elements to your engagement photos.

As an added bonus you get to cool off a little in the water while we capture these moments.

Summer is a great and fun time to take your engagement photos but keep the items above in mind when selecting the date and time of your photoshoot. We are happy to give our expert advice to help you prepare for your summer engagement photoshoot!
